English class for parents
Due the current situation our English Class for Parents has been suspended. LEAH (Learn English as Home) the charity which works with us to provide weekly classes for parents is running on-line sessions which our parents are welcome to attend. If you would like more information please do not hesitate to contact Jill Evans on jevans110@chj.rbksch.org.
Since September 2015, we have been running an English class for parents new to English. It is held in our school library.
The course is held each Tuesday (during term time only) at 9.00 am and is facilitated by LEAH (Learn English at Home) a local charity who usually support members of the community to learn English in their own home on a one-to-one basis. We have been fortunate enough to work in conjunction with this wonderful charity to host lessons for our parents at school. The class is free to our parents.
The sessions at Coombe Hill concentrate on matters relating to the everyday life of their children at school and at home. The school provides these lessons free of charge as we believe that it is important that all parents have the language skills and knowledge to support their children at home. The teachers from LEAH are volunteers.
The course is very relaxed and focuses on conversation. Often the group can be found enjoying food they have brought into school to share (occasionally with lucky office staff). There is no school room feel to the sessions and there is often much laughter to be heard coming from the library on Tuesday mornings.
The parents who have been attending regularly have reported that they feel much more confident in English and particularly when dealing with teachers at the parent/teacher evenings and the office staff. Crucially, they have expressed how much they enjoy the friendship of the group who are learning together.
